QuestionI am not seeking a solution; just want to know how things are. I am 32 and she is 27, perfectly healthy.
We are married since 2 years, and planning to have kids now. Last month we were having unprotected x after her periods (were using condoms earlier). But she did not conceive, we came to know as she got her next periods today.
As for, a young and healthy couple she should have conceived in one month, isn't it right?
What could be the reason for not conceiving? I heard that sometimes it takes time, but sometimes it happens in one single intercourse too.
AnswerHello Steve from India,
The average woman under the age of 30, will take 8-12 months to achieve pregnancy. We do not worry until 12 months have passed and she has not been able to conceive.
The human body, and its process to achieve a pregnancy, is very complicated with many steps and many ways that it can go wrong. We are not like rabbits, and therefore, it takes many more attempts for pregnancy to occur. Some people certainly get lucky and get pregnant on their first try, some on their third try and some by their 12th try. In any case, the average is 8-12 months of trying.
So don't worry unnecessarily and keep trying.
