Navigating Post-IVF Loss and Cycle Recovery: A Personal Account

Question
I recently went through IVF and was able to get pregnant.  However, the baby never developed and by week 8 I had to have a D%26C.  My doctor told me that my cycle would start 28 days from the date of the procedure.  Close to that date, I had some really bad cramping.  My doc told me to take Motrin and that it was an indication that my cycle would be starting.  However, it aboutr 3 weeks later and my cycle still hasn't started.  I took a HPT this morning that read "negative".  Is it possible for me to be pregnant in spite of it reading negative?

Answer
Hello Kassy from the U.S.,

HPT's are not sensitive enough to detect all pregnancies and can have false negatives.  So in answer to your question, yes it could be possible.  You should have a blood pregnancy test to be sure.

It is not unusually to have a delay in the onset of your menses after a D%26C.  The ovaries can take 4-6 weeks before it resets the cycle, so your lack of a period may not be abnormal.
