QuestionHi doc,
I am 29 yrs old and went for my second IVF cycle with ER on 26th Sept 10 and ET at 28th sept. The b-hcg was 4.22 miu on 10.10.10.
Would this be considered as positive, if no then is there any chance of it coming positive if i redo the test after few days?
My first ivf cycle failed despite everything being good.
In this cycle my doc gave heparin and aspirin also and overall the cycle was excellent with 4A grade embryos transferred.
Please suggest what would be right for me to do as I am completely exhausted with the time, effort, money being spent on the ivf cycles without getting any gud results.
My diagnosis is endometrioma on rt ovary with blocked tubes on fimbrial end... everything else is OK.
Regards
Ria
AnswerHello Ria from India,
The level designated as positive depends on the parameter used by the lab that did the test. In my office lab, we can detect bHCG all the way down to 0. Therefore, in my lab, your result would be a positive. In some labs, they do not consider the result to be positive unless it is greater than 5. My recommendation would be to repeat the test on 10/12 and 10/14, which is the protocol that I use.
At your age, if you go to a good IVF center, you should have a very high chance of getting pregnant (78% per cycle in my clinic). If this pregnancy does not work out, or a miscarriage occurs, then you need to keep trying. You will eventually be successful.
