QuestionHello,
My last period started October 28. My cycle is usually 32 days. I had a medical termination on the 15th December. I attended hospital in the morning, i was allowed to go home after inserting 4 mifepristone tablets to pass the pregnancy in my own home. I bled very heavily for the first few hours then it tailed off however i continued to bleed lightly but steadily, reducing after about a week but with light bleeding.
I began taking microgynon 30 contraceptive pills on the 20th December.
I had my secondary internal ultrasound on the 23rd December. The Dr advised me that there did appear to some clotting still but didn't see any problems, i was discharged and advised if i started to bleed heavily again to contact them.
My partner lives 200 miles away, our jobs dictate we only see each other at weekends hence the difficult decision to not continue with the pregnancy. He arrived on the 22nd and attended the scan. The bleeding appeared to have stopped and we resumed intercourse around 24th/25th December. There was some residual blood on withdrawal but not much.
We then traveled to his city on the 28th.
On the 30th, within an hour or 2 of intercourse, when walking from bed to bathroom i had a sensation of something exiting me. It felt like a large clot, i put my hand under me and a mass of tissue came out. It was approximately 3cm by 1 cm. I got such a fright i ran to the toilet and flushed it
away. My partner also saw this however due to my reaction we did not take the chance to look properly.
Having researched online i can not reason with myself that this was anything other than the gestational sac however cant understand how this would not have shown up on the internal scan.
Is it possible the Dr, who was accompanied by a nurse who simultaneously viewed the images could have missed this?
Is there any possible alternative explanation ?
I started to bleed clean red again but not dramatically. Due to the time of year and being so far from my own area i was unable to contact the clinic for advice. My stomach was cramping and my back sore but not unbearably. The bleeding seems to be tailing off again however is thick and mucassy, could this be due to the microgynon? There is no smell so i do not think there is any infection.
Finally, I developed a funny sensation around my vagina. Its as though something is there but its not, its not painful or itchy, just a sensation. I've only had 2 sexual partners in my 29 years and my partner was not promiscuous. I have also experienced spasms in my rectum however this is something i have experienced previously during periods so not altogether unusual. When attending my initial consultation the clinic also did standard gonorrhea and chlamydia tests which were negative. I am a bit of a worrier/hypochondriac at times. Could this just be residual symptoms of the termination or do you feel i should seek further advice?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
AnswerDear Kirsty,
I am concerned because of the fact of you saying that you have a "funny sensation" around your vagina. I would advise you to get a checkup at your doctor or wherever is possible. It could just be a worry or it could be something more serious. Please don't hesitate to get a consultation as your health is of the utmost importance. Since you did not have a post abortion checkup (as far as I can figure from what you wrote) I would recommend this checkup now.
I cannot tell you what the clot was so sorry I can't help you there. I don't recommend medical abortions (or any abortions, really) because of the fact that you deal with the medical part at home with no doctor supervision. I have researched this topic and have found many stories from women about problems from medical abortion.
Please email me at CHERYL51@aol.com and let me know what happens. If you do have to deal with any post abortion problems, such as psychological, spiritual or emotional, please email me also.
I do offer post abortion healing counseling free of charge.
Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
