Understanding MTHFR A1298C and Pregnancy Loss: A Personal Story

Question
I'm currently 29 years old.  i have a three year old son, with no complications at all.  Pregnancy, labor everything was perfect and so is your child.  I had a spontaneous m/c after hearing a heartbeat in Sept. 09.  We found out we were pregnant agin in Nov. 09.  When i was supposed to be 8 weeks, I was diag. with a blighted ovum.  Had a D&C, then after 3 months of bleeding, passing clots and having my HCG level go up and down, they are back to normal.  I had a series of blood tests done to see why I was m/c (the tissue from the d&c showed no chromosomal abnormalities)  I came back positive for Heterozygous MTHFR A1298C.  When I become pregnant again they want me to start taking a baby aspirin.  I've been taking a prescription folic acid since January.  Should I ask about Lovenox shots or going to see a fertility specialist?  I'm scared that this is going to happen again.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hello Jackie from the U.S.,

Yes, I think it would be a good idea to have a consult with a fertility specialist.  Low dose aspiring is a good idea, and low dose heparin or lovenox are also good ideas in preparation for the next pregnancy.  They need to be started at the beginning of the cycle.

Good Luck,
