Understanding Cervical Mucus Changes After Ovulation: A PCOS & Fertility Guide

Question
hello, im from australia,27 years old. trying to conceive for 18 months, have PCOS (no insulin issues though) and am currently on a round of puragon with iui and hcg injections. it has been 14 days since i ovulated and i have to wait 3 more days til my blood test for pregnancy (as the hcg will still be in my system til then). i have noticed that after ovulation my cervical mucus changed to white, then it disappeared. i have had absolutely no cervical mucus for at least 3 days now. i was under the impression that if you fell pregnant the cervical mucus increased? could i still be pregnant? i had blood tests 1 week after ovulation to check progesterone-it was 45 and estrogen was 1200. could i be dry due to the puragon that i was on in the follicular phase?, i am usually not dry at all-however i did have a chemical pregnancy 4 months ago and my cervical mucus did increase then? can each pregnancy be different even though they are only a few months apart?

Answer
Hello Krystal from Australia,

I have been ill this week so was unable to answer right away.  I appologize.  By now, you should have had your pregnancy test and know what the result is.  I don't know if your question is still relevant after knowing the result.

Usually in the luteal phase, the progesterone influence on the cervical mucus causes it to become thickened, and not abundant.  It is in the follicular (preovulatory) phase that the mucous becomes abundant due to pure estrogen stimulation.  Progesterone suppresses the estrogen influence.

Good Luck.  I hope you had a positive result.
