QuestionI am having irregular menses and doctor had prescribed me melmet and folic acid tab i am diagnosed with hypothyroidism as my TSH is very high.Is the medication prescribed is correct ????
AnswerHello Jeffy from India,
I am at a loss to understand why you are being placed on metformin for hypothyroidism. That is not a treatment for this disorder. Because you have irregular periods, your doctor may just have placed you on it thinking that you have PCO (polycystic Ovarian disease), but a recent study disputes that this does anything to help with PCO (see my recent blog post). Based on what you have told me, I think you need to find a better doctor, preferably one that knows something about infertility.
Good Luck,
