Teratospermia: Causes, Risk Factors, and Testicular Injury Connection

Question
Doctor, what could be cause of Teratospemia? Many claim that 90% of cases the cause is unknown (genetic disorder). Is it true? And, I would also ask: Whether there is any connection between the testicular injury and teratospermia?

I'm writing from Slovenia, EU.
Thanking in advance for your time and efforts!

Answer
Hello Drago from Slovenia,

The cause is unknown.  It occurs from malformation of the sperm within the testicle as the sperm is being developed, so it has to be a condition that affects the testicle at that level.  Possible causes include some autoimmune diseases, radiation exposure, extreme heat exposure, chromosomal or genetic abnormalities.  Testicular injury would probably not lead to abnormal sperm formation.  It would most likely lead to either part of the testicle not functioning at all or the entire testicle not functioning.
