Infertility After Pelvic Inflammatory Disease: Natural Conception & IVF Options

Question
My question is that in 2004 I had surgery to remove a ruptured cyst on my ovary.  The postoperative diagnosis was pelivc inflammatory disease,  actue with bilateral hydrosalpinx. Dense pelvic  adhesions. Large amber colored excudate in abdominal pelvic cavity. Densely adhered pelvic anatomy consistent with frozen pelvis. Normal appendix. Reading my operative report at the end it said that doctor made a decision at that time to stop the laparoscopy and treat me with antibiotics and possibly revisit the exploratory laparotomy at a future time. When I went in for my check up after this surgery being young I asked would I still be able to have kid he said yes but I'm at a higher risk to have an eptopic pregnancy. Me hearing that I was happy that I could still have kids. In 2012 I asked my Obgyn could I get pregnant because we have been trying for almost a year now. She told me no only IVF is your option. I want to know is that true? I dont have money for that but me and my fiance want kids because he has none and I have 2 from before. Also at 15 I had a son and after my 6 week check up I had abnormal cells on my cervix they lasered them off they were all noncancerous. At 22 I had another child when I was 4 months pregnant my sons father gave me an std but they caught it then at my check up and cured it. So since that surgery 9years ago and what my obgyn told me last year I do not know what to do. because I have now missed my period in March and it is April and I could be 7 weeks along. can you just please let me know if i will ever have kids again or not please.

Answer
Hello Kineta from the U.S (Delaware),

Based on the medical history you cited, your tubes are badly damaged and you have severe pelvic adhesions.  Both these problems indicate that IVF is the only treatment option to achieve pregnancy.

However, I do believe in miracles and see them happen all the time.  If you are late for your period, you need to have a blood pregnancy test to confirm positive or negative.  This is important because you are at risk of a tubal pregnancy, which could be a medical emergency and life-threatening.

Please see your doctor soon.

Good Luck,
