Understanding hCG Levels & Early Pregnancy Concerns: A Doctor's Perspective

Question
According to my last u/s on 2/25 I was 8 weeks with a heartbeat of 178. I had another u/s previously on 2/11 determining a 6+3 week baby with HB 131. My HCG went from 9000 to 11500 in my 24 HCG test.
However, I just got more bloodwork completed as ordered by my OBGYN and the results were 9600. Is this normal for them to drop so early after only reaching such a low level? Should I expect a miscarriage?

Answer
Hello Amanda from the U.S. (Florida),

The bHCG levels do not make complete sense.  For now, I would just go with the ultrasound.  An 8+ week ultrasound that finds appropriate fetal size and good fetal heart motion is indicative of a viable pregnancy.  There is no sense of worrying about something that is not yet a problem.

Good Luck,
