QuestionMy daughter age 49 has been on Adkins diet. She did not really need to lose weight. She is obsessed with being fat. She is nauseated, dizzy, breaks out in cold clammy sweats, is weak. I believe she has overdone it. I wonder if this diet has caused this? Is she lacking foods she needs?
AnswerNancy,
I am not an advocate of the Atkins diet for a variety of reasons. That being said, it sounds as if your daughter may have more serious issues at hand. Perhaps it is worth having her see her doctor, and perhaps have you go along to fill in some of the details.
If she feels poorly on the diet, I would have her go back to her normal routine. Frankly, my bias is for a diet of fresh fruit and vegetables, LOW fat and lean protein sources, and moderate amounts of complex carbohydrates. My biggest issue with Atkins is the level of fat and the lack of fruit and vegetables in sufficient quantity to promote good health.
