QuestionHello, I experienced facial trauma resulting in open nasal fracture approx. 7 months ago. At that time I received adult Td booster. A couple hours out I had a bumpy rash at injection site continuing to painful swelling of arm, going over the shoulder, symptoms peaking at 60 hrs out. At 3 1/2 days out I started experiencing bizarre neuro symptoms such as paresthesias, hyperesthesias, chills, loss of pain, extreme weakness, plus multiple other symptoms.I have a history of mild hay fever & mild allergy to horse sweat & dander. Since this experience, overall my allergies have become more severe, especially my allergy to horses. My physicians are not concerned about possible tetanus reaction.Bloodwork & CT scan were normal.I still am not normal. Do I need to be concerned about future reactions to tetanus shots?Thank you for your time!
AnswerYes, I would tell future physicians who are going to give you any immunizations by shot since the preservative could be the problem, less likely the tetanus or diphtheria in the TD booster. Most of the reactions are not related to the actual vaccince components but the preservatives. See if there is an environmental toxicologist in your area that your doctor could refer you to so you can get the real complete immunologic answer. OK?
p.s: there is no horse products used for the shot you got only the tetanus antiserum which is given to people who have never had the tetanus shots and gets a very dirty wound so you should not be having greater reactions to horses. OK?
