Diverticulitis vs. IBS Diet: Understanding Dietary Needs

Question
I have IBS for some years and as per tests over the last 6 years diverticulous.

Because last barium enema indicated possibility of a couple of small polyps I am waiting for a colonoscopy which won't be until September because of long waiting list.  One disadvantage of socialized medicare in Canada I presume

I am trying to figure out a diet that works.  Is there a major difference indieting for diverticulous versus just IBS?  I find internet confusing on this issue.  I know fiber is important and I do take Metamucil.

Answer
The safe answer is fiber, fiber and more fiber.  This can be obtained several ways... natural- bran muffins, bran cereal.  You can also use metamucil, now the capsules are much less messy... 3 capsules twice a day.  Also, can use one of the synthetic bulking agents, like Miralax.  That is what is used in larger doses to prep you for the colonoscopy.  Typically, these problems are intertwined, with each causing similar symptoms.

Hope this helps...
