Persistent Itching After Shingles: Understanding Nerve Sensations

Question
I experienced a 3-week bout of shingles on my back, underarm, and breast about 17 months ago when I was 54 yrs old.

Is it possible to still have the intermittent itching sensation, especially over my back area, after that amount of time from affected nerve endings?  Or is it more likely to be just dry skin?

Thank you.

Answer
Is it possible to still have the intermittent itching sensation, especially over my back area, after that amount of time from affected nerve endings? Yes, it is possible but more likely to be from recurrent zoster virus in the nerve ganglia of the spine that supplies the nerves to that area. OK?
Ask your doctor to put you on chronic acyclovir or Valtrex at the twice a day dose for 3 months and get on a nutritional deficiency replacement program of the following if OK with your doctor. Generally, the best is to replace your deficiencies in the modern agriculturally grown diets as follows:
1) 2000 mg omega-3 twice a day
2) high potency B complex twice a day
3) senior multivitamin daily
4) Caltrate with vitamin D twice a day
5) magnesium 500mg twice a day

Or is it more likely to be just dry skin? This is best treated with the use of white Crisco shortening applied to the skin lightly after bath or shower to seal in the water for at least 8 hours after baths. Also cut way back on soaps and fabric softners for life. OK?
