QuestionI guess I may have asked my previous question in an incorrect format. I asked a specific question about what might be wrong with me. I'm sorry. I am just afraid to call my doctor back to make another appointment when all of my medical tests have been normal thus far. I feel like a hypochondriac, and this latest issue with all over itching, just seems like another "thing" in a long list of unresolved issues.
I guess I should call my doctor, eh?
Thanks,
DDL
AnswerYes, call you doctor but you may have dysbiosis of the bowel. OK?
Dysbiosis means there is too much yeast, harmful bacteria, viruses or parasites in the intestines. Dysbiosis does more than interfere with digestion. Dysbiosis makes you tired. It alters your immune system. It upsets your hormonal balance. It can even make it difficult for you to think clearly. Dysbiosis can cause anxiety, depression or mood swings. Dysbiosis can affect almost every aspect of health.
If you have dysbiosis, then you likely suffer from fatigue, headaches, intestinal upsets, and many of the symptoms normally attributed to Candida or "The Yeast Syndrome." That is because the yeast syndrome is really dysbiosis. Dysbiosis is just a more general term. It encompasses the observation that yeast aren't the only intestinal residents that can cause these symptoms. In fact, intestinal bacteria or viruses may have center stage in some of these illnesses, not yeast. However, the sickest dysbiosis patients will have both yeast and harmful bacteria in their intestines.
Depending on the situation, you may want to employ antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals or antiparasitic medication to kill the pathogens inside the intestines. However, there is a lot more to the art of getting well than just killing pathogens. If you kill off one resident of the intestines, another is going to take its place. Will it be good? Seeding the intestines with good bacteria can help ensure that the new growth is healthy. Washing the intestines to prepare a place for the new growth can help too. However, this isn't all that must be done.
The situation is very analogous to farming. You can remove rocks, kill weeds and plant good seeds, but you aren't going to get a good crop if the soil is poor. Your body is the soil. Bacteria live off of the mucous lining of the intestine. You grow this lining. Therefore, the bacteria are living off of you. If your body chemistry is wrong, your intestinal bacteria aren't going to be healthy.
How do you change the body's chemistry? Good food is only part of the answer. You also have to replace some of the specific nutrients that the dysbiosis has depleted. You have to give the body the nutrients it needs to repair the intestines. You have to support the digestion with stomach acid, pancreatic enzymes, bile and perhaps even bicarbonates. You have to prop up the hormones. Thyroid in particular is often helpful. Your liver needs support. You should learn ways to reduce stress in your life. You have to re-train the immune system. Also, you need to discover what got you into this problem in the first place. To top it all off, you may have to learn all of this while you are stressed, tired, and sick.
