Red Patch on Face: Seeking Advice - Re-send Answer

Question
Hi! I got an e-mail from you saying you have answered the question already but I mis-spelled my e-mail address the first time I sent it, so I never receieved anything. That's why i re-sent it saying I typed in my e-mail address wrong. I would appreciate it if you could please re-send your answer to this e-mail address. Thanks.

I have this small red patch on my face, below my nose and above my lip that is quite annoying. It's about the width of a pea - it's not a bump but rather a "patch". It's red and the skin is flakey, and it itches from time to time. It's been there for about a month and I'm getting tired of it :) Do you have any ideas of anything I could do to get rid of it? Thanks so much!

Erin :)

Answer
Basically, I said that a sore that lasts this long could be a prolonged cold sore (herpes simplex infection) or could be a skin cancer.  Either way, with this lasting so long, it is reasonable to have it checked by your primary doctor unless you have easy access to a dermatologist.
