Zocor Alternatives: Managing Cholesterol & Muscle Pain

I am 40 years old with cholesterol at 207.  Went on Zocor and it dropped to 120 after one month and at 148 after second month.  Began having muscle pain in shoulders and blood test revealed liver irregularities.  Now have been told to stop Zocor for a month and retest.  If Zocor had this effect on my liver, will all statins?  Are there alternative medications that are as effective?  How long does it typically take for muscle pain to subside after stopping Zocor?  Pain is not but but noticeable at night while sleeping.
