Leg Extensions vs. Weighted Sit-Ups: Targeting Thigh Muscles & Longevity


Question
Hey. Whats the diff between sitting leg extensions and that machine where you do sit ups with weights.Both are for the front part of the thigh.But a gym guy told me that sit ups are to make thigh thicker . Ie muscles all round.

About living longer. You can. You Havta read about antioxydents.  you age due to two reasons. One is cuz of oxydents or free radicals in your body. Other due to reduction of harmonal levels. To live long you gotta slow your metabolic rate by breathing slowly except when exercise. And being a weekend warrior is bad cuz when you dont exercise for long your body reduces production of antioxydents.And then when exercisin you take in lots of oxygen when does lots of damage to cells. Best is to exercise with all your might without takin rest for like forty five min a day. If you use lots of energy like in runnin your body increases harmonal production. There are pple tryin to live for hundred and fifty years by startin to eat foods rich in antioxydents . Cuz it doubled the life of lab rats. It's all online. Read up.

Hi again die just press it and no repetitions. Jus keep it compressed or pulled by the strings. I din think it was helping . So i stopped. So is that called strength training. The one jackie chan does.Im gonna start bull working again.

I dont understand it though reps or not its still basically contraction of the muscle.

Another one- I want to exercise my lat to get that v shape. But i dont go to a gym and i use a window sunshade to do pull ups. The prob is my fingers are weak and i only exercise my fingers by doing two pull ups and staying in that position. So is there any other way or should i wait for my fingers to get stronger?

 K . If testosterone does all that , how come im not growing after the age 18 . Actually David for me i stopped growin strongr after 18. Cus I read somewhere that testosterone gets produced till your in your forties. Hey David , do u have any idea what exercises jackie chan does. I wanna be just like him. And he looks like a kid too. Not like a body builder . over testosterone boosted. I dont understand. U need strength to jump that high but hes thin.

It is TESTERONE. The same hormone that controls your skin color, your hair color, your eye color. It is a unusual chemical, though. It works on your muscles when you are resting, not when you are lifting. You lift, rest a day or more, and the testerone does it's stuff to give you bigger and stronger muscles.

Sorry, but age 18 is our peak in growth. It is the way we are made. No way around it. Following age 218 is a very long and slow decline in health and strength. Called sarcopenia.You loose about 1/3 of your body strength and 1/3 of your metabolism slows down by age 65. So let's put it this way;

Say I have the physical strength, at age 18, to lift myself out of a chair, without pushing my hands down on the chair or grabbing something to pull me out of the chair, with a little more strength to do things like carry my book bag to school, etc.

No I get 40, 50 and older. My strength is getting less and less. By age 60 and older, I am too weak to pull myself out of a chair, too weak to pickup anything. Too weak to walk normally. My arms and legs are skinny bones.I see it ALL THE TIME in old men and women everywhere.

I did not see it coming, it came so slowly. But here it is. A fact of life, you WILL get weaker when you get older.

But I decide to do weightlifthing SPECIFICALLY for strength training. At age 30, or even 40, my strength is strong enough to pick up myself out of a chair, AND carry a 50 pound box tucked under 1 arm. By the time I reach age 60 and older, I am weaker, I no longer can carry a 50 pound box, I am do

Hey again!

Both machines will give you reasonable strength in your major muscles in your thighs. If you want to work 100% of the muscles in your thighs, do 1/4 squats, also called shoulder presses, with a power rack where you lift and HOLD the weight on your neck and shoulders, balancing the weight bar with your hands, for 60 seconds. This works ALL of the muscles in your thighs.

I am not sure what sit up exercise they are telling you, but situps done the normal way do not even work-out the abs; they work the sides and back muscles.
