Persistent Upper Abdominal Pain: Causes, Relief, and When to See a Doctor

Question
I have on going pain at the top of my stomach, right where my ribcage meets.  I was told I have Acid Reflux, took Losec for awhile, while the burning sensation is gone from my throat. The pain has become worst in the last few weeks.  I went to the walk in clinic and was given the same drugs, I have not started them yet - waiting for the prescription to be filled, anyhow, I also have some discomfort in my chest area on the left hand side, which I am told is also from the acid reflux problem.  I do not drink alcohol or smoke and only have ginger ale or decafe tea (one cup a day) - - I am just wondering is this acid reflux?  If there was a problem with the flap going into the stomach, wouldn't I still be getting the burning sensation in my throat?  I am overweight by ALOT, it does not seem to be made worse by certain foods, although I have been avoiding fast foods.

Answer
it porbably is acid reflux, but hard to tell... it could be gall bladder disease, depending on your age and your other risk factors, theoretically could be heart problems... I would take the Losec, which I guess is Prilosec, 1/day on an empty stomach and see how things go, then if no better, you need another evaluation.  Hope this helps...
