MY MOTHER WAS IN A NURSING HOME FOR 10 YEARS,,,MOST OF WHICH WERE PLEASANT..HER MAIN CONCERN WAS MOSTLY HER BOWEL MOVEMENTS. THE NURSES SAID EVERY 3 DAYS WAS FINE..SHE WANTED TO GO EVERYDAY....AND WE TOOK NATURAL WAYS TO HELP HER...WARM PRUNE JUICES ALL BRAN, FIBRE THERAPY..NOTHING REALLY WORKED THE WAY SHE WANTED BUT IT WAS OK... MY QUESTION IS THIS? NOW I AM APPROACHING MY 7OS AND WONDER EXACTLY HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE ELIMINATE OUR FOOD, AND HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GO FROM YOUR MOUTH TO THE EXIT...WHEN YOU ARE YOUNG EVERY THING IS NATURALLY DOING IT S JOB, WHEN YOU ARE OLDER YOU HAVE TO PROVIDE A LITTLE ENCOURAGEMENT TO YOUR BODY TO DO WHAT YOU WANT IT TO DO...LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR ANSWER....NANCY

Hi Nancy and thanks for writing,

If our bodies worked perectly we would have a BM after each meal, but there are so many things in this modern busy world that interfere with our natural systems.

The best thing to do is to drink as much water as you can tolerate (dehydrating drinks like Tea, Coffee & Cola don't count), eat a sensible diet and get enough fiber. I always believe natural remedies are best and I highly recommend Psyllium to everyone as it's a natural fiber and also works as a sponge for toxins and cholesterol.

I hope this helps, wishing you good health,

Margot
