Endometriosis & Health Insurance: Understanding Your Options

Question
Hi Martha,
I have not been oficially diagnosed with endo but was told 3 years ago, during testing to see why I wasnt getting pregnant, that I had endo but my doc told me he would deal with that at our next appointment since he found something else more concerning, I never went back. I sell health insurance in the US and I know what an endo diagnosis can do to my chances of getting health insurance in the future.
You'll probably tell me Im "silly" for not going back to the doc, but I was hoping you could also tell me what I can do for my pain. 3 days out of the month Im in excruciating pain, and my poor husband cant "touch" me for at least a week. I've taken up to 8 tylenol/aspirin/mydol/motrin in a 2 hour period and it doesn't help. Please... any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Rebecca
Well, I'm not going to say you're silly...but I will say, you could save yourself alot of pain and discomfort by seeing your doctor. I have had endo all my life but never had any health insurance issues with it.
Any over the counter meds will more than likely make you sick to your stomach before it helps your pain...OTC meds really do a number on your stomach lining.
I would suggest you get to your gyno, if this is endo and goes untreated, it will worsen and spread.
I currently take a prescription called Anaprox, it is an anti inflammatory that I take just before, during and sometimes during ovulation. Its basically on an as needed basis. It really helps me with the bloating and pain. It reduces swelling thus better blood flow occurs and then less cramping.
I have also been on the BC pill...for about 18 years. That worked wonderfully until I began to have migraines.
You have alot of choices...but the best right now, would be to get to a good gyno...you will feel better, I promise!
Take care.
Martha
