QuestionI've told my dr. I am certain that I am someone's "walking dissertation," but have had no luck so far and will try to be brief. I was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia in 1981--went through all the chemotherapy, lumbar punctures and bone marrow aspirations...
I have chronic low back pain and am seeing a pain management dr. However, is it possible that a lot of my back pain is the result of the numerous bone marrow aspirations I had when I was between the ages of 10-12? I'm 37 now, have had two MRI scans done & they've revealed L4-5/S1 degenerative discs. Lately, I feel as if my right hip is irritated from the inside out.
I also have a thoracic syrinx extending from T5-T12 (possibly caused from a "bad" lumbar puncture?)
Have you encountered a situation such as this before? Any "prognosis" you can offer?
Thank you for your time,
Jeff
Answerusually, bone marrow biopsies are done on the pelvic wing, away from the discs/joints/etc of the low back... I doubt if there is a relationship there. Now, the lumbar puncture could be a causal issue with the thoracic back problem.... Overall, prognosis is tough to answer... some people with low back syndromes do great with some physical therapy, some meds and exercise, some are plagued with chronic pain.... good luck with it...
