A burning sensation which often feels like pins & needles, occasionally with numbness and/or tingling is usually due to pressure on a nerve. This can related to Diabetes if you are Diabetic, or it can be a pinched nerve.

Have you experienced a trauma lately or hurt yourself lifting something heavy? If it doesn't clear up or gets worse, i suggest you go see your family doctor for an examination. Generally you need to rest the area and try to not aggravate it again.
