Lamictal and Neurological Symptoms: Understanding Potential Connections

Question
Have been experiencing frequent dizziness, headaches and left hemi-body tingling with intermittent patchy "dead" areas.(topical numbness)
Have had all sorts of tests, MRI showed 5 lesions "most consistent with microangiopathy" Dr. admits he's "not sure whats going on, but perhaps it's too early to show up in tests" He has prescribed Lamictal to help with the tingling and numbness......I read on the drug pamphlet that it is primarily indicated as an anti-seizure/convulsive medication, and even for Bi-Polar Disorder.
This scares the heck out of me, is it possible that this could indeed help with my symptoms??? Or should I be leary of taking a med that alters chemicals in the brain?
Could the "good outweigh the bad"? Possible side-effects?

yes, this med could help... side effects would be drowsiness only... it won't cause seizures or cause mental illness.  It depends on how well it affects the nerve impulse transmissions from the pain nerves in those areas.  But, it is safe and the only problem would be temporary side effects.  we use a lot of these meds for "off label" uses because of their safety and effectiveness.
