Medication Interactions & Healing: What to Watch Out For
QuestionI went to the doctors this past friday 8/31, I had a sore throat and was sick for the couple days past. I have a bad habit of not going to the doctors unless absolutly necessary, I always give my body a chance to fight it first and it usualy always does me good and I also dont have health insurance right now until I'm eligible in a month so it saves me money. I usually never get sick. Anyway, all of this happened around the same time probably 24 hours; I decided to quit smoking, I get a sore throat that feels like strep, and I had what looked like a bad infected hair on my neck from bad shaving habits, and started to get either an infected hair or pimple like bump on both sides of my mouth (not actualy on the lip) probably from bad shaving habits again. It seems if I pay special attention to an area with a razor, something will happen, such as my neck and gettting rid of the anoying hairs on the corners of your mouth. When I get to the doctor he very briefly looked in my mouth and said "yep you definitly have something going on there", and pretty much just wrote me a precription. I also mentioned my neck but he didn't say much about it except just take the precription. My sore throat is pretty much gone and I feel better. But my neck and the bumps on the side of my mouth, they dont seem to be going away. Actually it seems my neck has been spreading or just hasn't been healing. Its about 2" of open sore, like the top skin is gone. And the bumps on the side of my mouth are scabed over and havent healed. To be honist, this isnt the first time with the side of the mouth, but I usualy am able to rid of them in a few days. My question is, are the precriptions that I'm taking possibly slowing down the healing? And whats the best way to let the neck heal? I get conflicting suggestions, like keep antibiotic on it with a bandaid or, just let it air out and dry. The precriptions that the doc put me on is Amox-Clav 875MG and Prednisolone 15MG/5ML Syrup. The Amox-Clav I take 1 tablet 2 times daily and the prednisolone I take 1 teaspoon by mouth for 7 days. I was reading up on prednisolone and it seems it may be counteracting my healing for my neck. Could this be ture? Thanks!
AnswerHi Stan,
The prednisolone could be delaying the healing of the sores. I don't think the anitbiotics are to blame. These sores on the corner of your mouth may not bhe related to shaving at all. They could be something called Perleche. In any event, it should be determine because treatment is totally different from what you are doing now.
