Crayon in Ear: What to Do When Removal Isn't Immediate?

Question
My 3 yr old son put a crayon in his ear 2 weeks ago and pulled it back out and had no complaints but when he went in for his checkup today the dr. found a large chunk of crayon in his ear and said it's too far in for him to get it out so he recommended that I go to an ENT (he said since my son is not in pain, it's not necessary to go to the emergency room). I am unable to find an ENT who can see him for 3 more weeks. My dr. says he can wait that long, but I am unsure - should I wait for the appt. or take him to the ER? Thank you so much for your opinion.

Answer
crayon (wax) is pretty harmless, I would go to the ENT... they have better tools to remove foreign bodies.  I work in the ER and have removed them, but it sometimes is tough.... and sometimes the child has to be put to sleep if he won't hold still.   But it could wait three weeks if you had a definite appt.  Hope this helps..... you might experiment on seeing how hot water or a blow dryer must get to start melting a crayon (not the one in ear) and if not too hot, you might melt it out.... but I suspect it would require too much heat and the child couldn't tolerate it....
