Exercise After 50: Is It Still Worth It?

Question
Is exercise, after the age of 50, other than stretching, really just a waste of time?
I used to be a fitness buff but am getting limited returns from exercise. The aches and pains of age and middle aged spread wont be held back by exercise, even though I am eating less and working out even more.
So, I sold my weights, treadmill, and bench, and other than some brisk walking to the mall and morning stretching, its all I do now.
You hear about celebrities like Madonna and Stallone that look good, but they dont work 8 hours a day and can spend hours at their private gyms.Call me jaded, but unless you can offer a good argument, thats my opinion.
Also, I have tried a lot of natural supplements and vitamins that are supposed to restore youth. I keep getting older and look it.
Other than not smoking and overeating fatty foods, I think there is nothing you can do or take.
Call me jaded, but unless you can offer a good argument, thats my opinion.
Thanks, happy new year!

Answer
Terry,

Don't give up on exercise.  That is the fountain of youth believe it or not... along with good nutrition and "balanced" hormone replacement therapy when indicated.  After 40 men's testosterone levels drop as do other hormonal axis and that is a BIG factor in your plateau.  If you give up resistance and aerobic exercise then things will only get worse.  Read my blog at www.DocSaleeby.blogspot.com and search for topics on nutrition, supplements, exercise and growth hormone and testosterone replacement.  You will find those articles of interest.  As far as some celebs that look great into their 60s... well many are on the juice... HRT and Growth Hormone (rhGH) and the such.  That is not for everyone, but daily exercise, good nutrition and balanced sensible supplements is.  I provide telemedicine services and can be of additional and more specific help... check them out on saleeby.net and CarolinaMobileMD.com
