QuestionI'm 57, just retired. I've heard a lot of good
things about weight training for seniors. But I've also heard a lot of bad things. What's the story? Is it good for you or injure you?
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
Martin
AnswerMarty,
Weight training in moderation helps build muscle mass and bone strength, and is very imporant component of any exercise program, whether it be for seniors or for others. You just need to approach the weight training with moderation and education. It may be worthwhile joining a gym or program specifically designed for seniors. Many hospitals have programs like this, and there is also a national program called "Silver Sneakers" that may be up your alley.
