Understanding Bumps Around the Vulva in Elderly Patients: A Guide for Caregivers

Question
My Mother, who is 84 years old and in a rest home, has several bumps around the vulva area. These seem to be irregular shape and different sizes. One is about the size of a pencil eraser.  They don't seem to cause her pain. She has no control of her her bladder or bowels What could these be and is it something I should put her through having a Dr. look at. She has severe dementia and this would be pretty traumatic for her. Thank You

Answer
Hi there Janet, thank you for posting your question. My area of expertise is in human sexual dysfunction. But I hope I can be of some small help to you.

Obviously I can't tell you exactly what these lumps are but my feeling is that they are benign, non-cancerous and non-life threatening. I think the poor lady should be left alone to be honest with you. Best wishes to all.
