QuestionHello,
I had a ct scan done last year in May. They found a 3.3cm x 1.9cm left adnexal cyst. I was told that this cyst might just go away it itself. I have had a lot of stomach pain and back aches also the urge to go to the bathroom a lot this past year.
I just had another ct scan done. There is a 3.6cm x 2.4cm left adnexal cyst. Do you think this is the same cyst? Do you think this could be causing my problems? I am 47, and had a hysterectomy 18 years ago. I thought they popped by themselves. Thank you for your time.
AnswerIt probably is the same cyst.... but the pelvis has a lot of room for expansion, so a tiny cyst like that probably will not be causing all those symptoms. If you think about it, you can hold a 20 cm cyst in the pelvis wthout even showing and a 40 cm baby barely fits.
You should have a full workup looking for other causes... uterus infections, endometriosis, etc.
Most of ovarian cysts go away on their own, some may persist. Whether to do surgery depends on the whole clinical picture.
