Swollen Legs After Long Drives: Causes & When to See a Doctor
QuestionI'm 66, fit and healthy. I drove 2,000 miles, and arrived at my destination two days ago. I've also been behind the wheel a lot since arriving. Yesterday, I noticed that my legs are swollen, from the thighs to the ankles. It doesn't bother me, and I'm not having any trouble on the treadmill. Could the swelling be a consequence of spending so much time in the car? Do you think that I need to see a doctor? Thank you for your generous help.
Answerit isn't unusual to get some swelling from prolonged sitting. You should take aspirin and get up and walk around every 2 hours (5 minutes or so) if you are in a sitting position for a long time. The worry is a blood clot in the leg..... if it goes away quickly with a day of activity then rest, don't worry.... if it doesn't.... get it looked at.
