Ovarian Cysts: Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment Options

Question
I don't know if you can answer my question but I'm desperate for information. If you could share what you do know or point me in a direction on where to find answers that would be great. I am 20 years old and for the past 2-3 months I've been having a lot of trouble. And after endless testing and such I found out I had a cyst on my left ovary. The doctor proscribed me a special birth control that is supposed to help reduce and prevent cysts. I've been miserable having a lot of pain. Nausea. About a week ago I was rushed to the ER because I was collapsing over in pain. Long story short I grew another cyst in the 4 weeks prior to my 1st ultrasound and it burst it was a hemmorhagic cyst. And ever since then not much has changed I am in so much pain I can barely do anything at work and I'm suffering. The doctor gave me some percacet and I take that at night so I can sleep with out waking up in excrusiating pain. I had a follow up appt from my visit to the ER and the doctor doesn't know what else he can do for me. I have another appt schedualed in a few days and he said if not much has changed he's refering me to a genecologist and theyre goin to opt to do surgery and take out the cyst and because I've had 2 already and they have been so severe the likelihood of them returning is almost definate. So they will mostlikely want to remove both of my ovaries. Which has very difficult for me to cope with since I am only 20. I am active duty airforce along with my husband and we are both cops so my job is very demanding. I guess I am curious to know what my other options are? Or if they do have to remove my ovaries if it's possible for me to have my eggs frozen and then still be able to birth a child at a later time? Even though I don't have ovaries. If you could help me in anyway I would greatly appreciate it.

Answer
Hi Kailen
I am so sorry you are having such extensive trouble and pain. My first reaction to your issues...is to get to a gyno that is a specialist in endo and woman diseases. The cysts on your ovaries can probably be removed without removing the entire ovary. But you need a specialist.
Since you are so young, I truly believe your ovaries can be saved for child bearing.
Not sure if endo and cysts are associated but the relationship between the two is uncanny. Don't settle for removal of both ovaries.
I know how you feel...being in such excruciating pain, the nausea...I had all of that...yet I still have my ovaries. I only have 1/2 of my left ovary left...but it is fully functional and if I was younger...would be able to conceive.
I wish you luck, comfort and peace...but find an specialist to handle this!
