AnswerHi and best wishes!
I would say take a class. If you have a family member or a close friend, take them as your partner!
Classes can be great to help to learn a variety of tools to help you through labor.
They can help you develop a birth plan, know your options, help you to understand interventions and help you understand complications that can be scary if your not informed.
Yes, you can get alot from a book, but working with a instructor and being with others who are getting ready to give birth is a wonderful experience!
Lamaze is a great option! If your husband is away, you can take the physical class and then send him to
www.about.com in the pregnancy catagory and he can read a ton about what you are learning.
You could fax him hand outs that you get, talk back and fourth in email now that communication is so much easier when dad is away.
I've even worked with mom's who's husband were in Iraq and they were able to be on the phone with each other when pushing and to hear the baby's first cry.
Enlist a friend! Possibly consider a doula if there is no one near you.
If your husband is overseas with the military, there is Operation Special Delivery that has volunteer doulas for spouses at home!
Please write back anytime and let me know how it goes ;)

Take care and again, best wishes!
