Breech Baby & Fetal Growth Percentiles: Expert Advice

Question
Hello, i have 2 questions, the first one is that i am 35 weeks pregnant with my 4th child, this baby is breech , the head is up with feet up at my ribs and bum down, can this be fixed?  My second question is that my babys head is measuring 5 percentile while the rest of it is measuring 50, what does this mean, and the percentile of the head has been as low as 3 percentile.

Answer
I sincerely apologize- I didn't receive the notification that I had questions waiting for me until today.

Yes, breech babies will often turn by themselves in the last weeks. At 35 weeks, your baby is still moving around in the womb and will continue to do so. Usually breech intervention (such as external version and other methods) isn't performed until around 39 weeks.

Here are some great sites to look at that explain different methods of turning a breech baby. However, I recommend that you talk with your midwife or doctor and discuss these options with him/her before you try any on your own.

As for the head measuring in the lower percentile, I would not be worried unless your doctor/midwife has other indications that there is a problem. Ultrasounds, while relatively accurate these days, still have margins of error. In addition, growth charts are just percentages based on averages. 5th percentile is still within the normal range- it just means that it appears that the baby's head is measuring a little small, on average, compared to its body.  If everything else has been normal, it is unlikely that there is a problem here.

Please let me know if I can help you further or with anything else.

Best wishes,
Helen =)
