Vicodin and Pregnancy: Risks & Considerations for Fathers

Question
Thank you for your previous response - I have been looking for this information all over the web.  I have a related question with a more current use-concern.  My wife and I have made the first step to try in having our second child.  Our first baby is healthy and happy!  Since our baby was born, I have started taking vicodin for chronic back pain, restless leg syndrome, and a torn meniscus in my knee.  It has been a less than optimal health time for me.  I have read that Vicodin is a "class c" drug for women that may cause dependency issues for the baby when coming out of the womb.  Is it a risk if I continue to take this for my pain in trying to get pregnant?
Thanks again!

Answer
Vicodin in your body is not going to have any effect on your wife or on any pregnancy she has.  It's possible that the Vicodin might have an effect on your sperm count and motility, but I am not aware of any studies that have looked at this, so it is just something to be aware of if you have difficulty in conceiving.
