Mammogram Recommendations After 70: Safety & Alternatives
QuestionI am 71 years old. Can I safely stop having mammograms now? If I should still be tested, could I have an MRI instead of X-ray? I have no breast cancer in my family.
Thanks for your answers.
AnswerA German study has recently shown benefits of mammography even at old age so my reply would be that I can not recommend you to stop. MRI breast scans can be done as a replacement but are more time consuming and much more expensive than mammography and not so available everywhere.
