Managing Period Symptoms: Addressing Weakness, Aches, and Irritability

Question
first off, i'm not sure if i can actually ask you this. i hope my questions fit your expertise since this is categorically in women's health..

i'm an active 21 year old so i'm not the happiest when i have moments when i feel weak and achy for like 20 seconds multiple times a day when i have my period. i also feel really hot when i have my period, and when i feel hot, even if it's just summer, i get raelly irritable. and this will come even bratty-er but i really just don't enjoy the hassle of putting on pads or tampons.

i've read that people can freeze their egg cells. can a 21 year old do that? deposit egg cells in a hospital and then stop egg cell production. i don't know how, are the ovaries cut out? i wish to stop the whole menstruating thing permanently. i'll just get my frozen egg cells stuck back into me if and when i wish to have a baby already.

i apologize for my immaturity

Answer
We can freeze sperm, and we can freeze embryos, but we can't freeze eggs.  And periods are necessary for preparing the uterine lining to carry a baby.  It's possible to stop periods on a temporary basis, using depo Provera (birth control shot), or more or less stop periods using birth control pills on a daily basis.  Most women will still get some periods with either method, but they can be very far apart, or with depo Provera, periods often stop completely after 6 months or so of using it (shot every 3 months).  So I would talk to your doctor about using birth control pills that give you 4 periods a year (Seasonale, Seasonique) or once a year (Lybrel).  There may be breakthrough bleeding with any of these, especially the first 3 months, but at least you eventually would have very few periods.  With Depo Provera, you could go years without a period, but it does cause some bone thinning, so it's not recommended to be used for many years.
