Understanding Mammogram Results: Dense Breasts & Calcifications
QuestionI am a 30 yo mother of three. I had my first mammogram done today. the results state: breasts are extremely dense and architecturally similar. A few scattered punctuate calcifications are noted. No discrete mass, suspicious calcifications or focal area of architectural distortion. No evidence of malignancy. BIRADS category 2- benign findings. What does all this mean?
AnswerYou have very dense breasts (= a lot of fibrous tissues and glandular tissues in your breasts, not dangerous in any way but it makes it hard to see details in mammography investigations). That means that it is hard to see everything in your breasts with just mammography. ALL your mammography check ups SHOULD therefore be complemented with BOTH MRI AND ultrasound breast scans! In this mammography check up nothing suspect is seen. So nothing indicating anything dangerous is seen! Good luck!
