Understanding Mammogram Results: Heterogeneous Fibroglandular Microcalcification

Hello,
I am asking this question regarding the mammogram my sister took regarding the findings. When she got the results from the first mammo it reavealed that there was an abnormality and was asked to take a second mammo, After taking the second mammo the findings reavealed that she has a "faint" heterogeneous fibroglandular microcalcification in the upper right quadrant in the breast tissue" having said that the results were sent to our family internest and the doctor have said she needs to schedule a "biopsy" to see if it is cancerous. Could this be cancer of the breast? Its been a nightmare for her and for us as well. This is her first mammo and there are just sleepless nights and she can't eat, and of course constant worrying. Could u better clarify what all this medical term means? We thank u very much and i hope we will eventually get better news. Thanks again for your time!

Yes it can be even if it is far from certain. In order to KNOW what it is a biopsy should be done (easiest & simplest for her as a stereotactic needle biopsy) so that a pathologist can study a sample from that area. Should be done soonest. Then you will know what it is and what to do - if anything. It is quite possible that it will turn out not to be anything serious but of course I can not promise anything. That is why a biopsy is necessary Good luck!
