Understanding Your Mammogram Results: Fibroglandular Density & Benign Calcifications

Question
I am 61 years old and my last mammogram 2/09 had different results than previously.  The report said, "There are scattered fibroglandular densities bilaterally.  There are stable scattered benigh-appearing calcifications bilaterally.  BIRADS2/Benign findings."  Can you clarify this for me?  Thank you.

Answer
Well based on your report your breasts must look rather young since there are fibroadenomas present - or are you or have you been not long ago under female sex hormone treatment? There are also some calcifications present but all these changes look NON cancerous (have nothing to do with cancer).  BIRAD 2 means very little cancer risk. It also states that what is seen is benign = NOT cancer.
