Understanding Stage 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma: A Pathologist's Explanation
Question
pathology report
my 26 years old mother went through right breast and axillary tissue removal serg. i need to know what is her statues.. is she is going to die?
AnswerYour mother has been operated with a mastectomy & axillary lymph node dissection for an invasive grade 2 (II) ductal mammary cancer in her right breast that has spread at least to the lymph nodes (12/17) in her right arm pit (axilla). So it is clearly a stage 3 (III) breast cancer. Your 62 year old mother SHOULD have post surgical radiation therapy AND chemotherapy. There was no mention in the pathology report of hormone receptors in her tumor or if it is HER2+. If it is she should have special chemotherapy and if there are such receptors also hormone therapy. It is much too early to state if this will kill her or not. First of all you have to make certain that all these tests are done and that she will receive proper treatment! Good luck! Please do keep me posted!
