Birth Control Pill for Beginners: Yasmin - Starting & Ovulation Concerns

Question
Hi Diane,
I really need help regarding my birth control pill. I am 25 years old. I have never used birth control pill before. Today's date as im writing this message is 5th of june. My last periods started at 26 may (my periods lasts only 3 days), so as an estimation on 7th i will start ovulating. Today i bought yasmin (21 day pack)and i was suggested  that i start this pill on my first day of period ( that will be on 26 june) My concern is that if i start my pill on the first of my period so can i have sex as soon as my periods get over (thats is on the 4th day of pill) ?? Will i get pregnant? Should i wait for 7 days or more?? As my husband lives out of country and he will be leaving on 10 july so we will not have enough days to have sex, therefore i do not want to waste any time. And one more question i have, now that there is still time for me to start yasmin, if i have sex and i take morning after pill, is that okay? Can it prevent pregnancy? Which morning after pill should i take, and how effective they are? As im not much aware of it, could you please help me with this.

Thank you,
Peach.

Answer
Dear Peach,

I am sorry for the delay. My daughter had a baby and I with helping her and with the other children. So what has happened since this post? Did you start the birth control pill or are you waiting for June 26? I would follow your doctor's instructions if I were you. I don't recommend generally the birth control pill because of the hormones. I don't feel that it is healthy for your body and can cause future side effects and risks. Also, I don't recommend the morning after pill or Plan B. There is some controversy over this but I like the article at http://www.optionline.org. Some feel that the morning after pill or Plan B can cause an abortion.
