QuestionI'm interested in whatever would be most effective. I have mainly been looking at hormonal but would be willing to try non-hormonal methods as well.

I have been looking into all the different BC options, and have noticed that most of the sites I've visited say that if women are over a certain weight, the BC is less effective. I am considerably overweight (I'm 5'1" and weigh about 250 pounds) and want a birth control that will be effective for my body weight. Thank you!

Are you interested in hormonal or non-hormonal birth control?
AnswerHormonal contraceptives are the the most effective in preventing pregnancy. The pill probably contains enough hormones to keep you from getting pregnant, but the ring (NuvaRing) and the patch (Ortho Evra) may not protect you efficiently from pregnancy. The shot and implant may also be good options.
If you have given birth or had an abortion you should consider the hormonal or non-hormonal IUD. Besides from sterilization it is the most effective birth control, even for overweight women it is highly effective.
If you are interested in non-hormonal birth control there are several options. The diaphragm, condoms, sterilization and cycle computers (Persona, Ladycomp etc.) Comdoms are approximately 98% effective. This means that 2% of the women using comdoms as birth control will get pregnant within a year. The diaphragm is slightly less effective. The Ladycomp cycle computer is 99,3% effective when used correctly, but it requires periods of comdom/diaphragm use or abstinence. You can read more about the Ladycomp at http://www.babycomp-ladycomp.com/en/.
My only advice to you is to choose one of these and try it out. They are effective even for overweight women. Also check out http://www.birthcontrol.com.
Good luck!
