Switching Birth Control Pills: Backup Methods & What to Expect

Question
I recently changed birth control pills from levelen to apri, and then back to levelen again due to the side effects of the apri.  I have a new perscription called in for jasmin as of today, and i was told for the very first time that i should use a back up method of birth control for the first month of using the jasmin.  Is that normal to need to use a back up method when switching pill types>  I have NEVER been told this before.  It alarms me a bit because i switched to the levelen from the apri for this last month before getting this new perscription.

Answer
Read the pamphlet that comes with the pills CAREFULLY. If you have taken your levlen and apri pills correctly, start yasmin directly after the withdrawal bleeding and you are protected from pregnancy (and were protected from pregnancy when you switched the last time if the pills were taken correctly).
