Contraceptive Injection vs. Combined Pill: Which is Right for You?

Question
Hi,
I currently take the combined contraceptive pill, but I have recently been reading about the contraceptive injection. I am now unsure of whether to stay on the pill or to try the injection. What really attracts me to the injection is the fact that you don't have to take something every day, you just need to turn up for your next injection on time. However I am aware that there are other disadvantages with this method and I am really not sure what to do. I was just wondering what your opinions are on the two methods? Thank you for your time.
Kind regards, Gemma.

Answer
as you already know, the contraceptive injection has a few "disadvantages". if you know them all well, you're good to go, if you don't, look around the internet a while so you have all the information.

you then need to think what are your personal plans. the contraceptive injection affects your fertility after you stop taking it, sometimes for periods longer than 1 year. you need to evaluate this method on that and other fronts.

you can talk to your partner / mother / a friend and ask for different views, from people that know you well.

after gathering all the information, collected a couple opinions from the people that would have the better view of your "problem", go and see your doctor. he/she is the best person to then advise you on the best method for you, according to your choices and priorities.

there are a few online tests that help you choose your birth control method as well, use google for example, to look for one of these. as "basic" as they are, they could help you in your decision.

also, if you have problems with the pill as in taking it every day, you should know there are other methods that don't require a daily taking, such as the patch or the ring, which don't have the side effects that the injection carries. have a look into them as well.

i hope you're able to make the best choice for you.
