QuestionFrom what I understand there is a chance of getting pregnant while on birth control. I was wondering, when statistics are made, for example, that a birth control pill is 97% effective, does that mean over a course of time (such as a month), or every time you have sex there is a 97% chance you won't get pregnant?
AnswerStatistics are based on a year. But statistics don't tell you what you particular risk is. There are factors in your life that affect the risk: level of fertility, compliance with birth control protocols, health, frequency of sexual activity, etc. These are all computed for 1000 people over a year to come up with 97% risk. But for the birth control pill, the risk ranges from 80-99% = and if you get pregnant, for you the risk was 100%.
