QuestionDear Dr. Jean,
I am on a generic form of orthotricyclin in which all the pills are the same strength (i.e. they do not change color each week). I was considering ending the cycle early by skipping the last 3 pills of the 3rd week so that I can begin and end my period 3 days earlier.
As I understand it thus far, this would not increase my chance of ovulating... Or is this just a bogus idea? Would this put me at a higher risk for pregnancy? Please get back to me when you have the time.
Thank you so much!
AnswerHi,
From what I understand, it won't increase you chances of ovulating, as your body will be gearing down to prepare for your period. And, it should work, but remember, your period may not start right as expected. It may be a little earlier than you'd expect, or even later.
And the big question is what will you do for the new pack? Will you start it 3 days early also (that's what I'd recommend), or will you start it like you regularly would. In either case, my concern would be for how protected you'd be NEXT month. If your period reacts like you want, and starts 3 days early, and you start your next pack 3 days early, your cycle will probably adjust accordingly, and your pills should work next month fine. If it doesn't start like you plan, you may want to use a back-up method for the next pack just to be sure your protected.
Hope that helps you out.
Good Luck to you, and Thanks!!
Drea Jean
