What Happens If You Miss a Week of Birth Control Pills?

Question
I've been taking a triphasic birth control pill for the past 6 months, but this month, I guess I was very pre-occupied, but I forgot to stop taking my pill, and continued with the next pack. So instead of giving myself the week break (or taking sugar pills) I just continued on, which obviously isnt good. I honestly don't know what I was thinking, but I didnt realize it until I freaked out because I thought my period was late, and checked my calender.

So, my question is, what does this exactly do to me?
And what would be some of the side-effects of it?
Does it decrease the effectiveness?
Any information at all would be good.

Answer
Hi Janelle,
First off, I want to tell you that I'm not a medical professional so please ask your physician these questions as well. I might have to do some more research on your question as I'm not entirely sure. I know that taking the pills correctly is important and so this could throw off your cycle. The side effects would be that your normal cycle will be irregular. The pill is not 100% failure proof anyway so that would be something to think about. I will be glad to do more research if you'd like. Just email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com
Thanks.
