QuestionHi Diane,
I just scanned through other questions that you answered, and I think you may have answered questions similar to mine, so I'm sorry if you've answered this like a billion times already, but I'd really appreciate your opinion.
I'm 17 years old and used to have terrible acne, so I started using Acutane, which worked wonders (I'm off of it as of January, and acne-free!). The only problem is that, through the new "I-Pledge" Program, I had to take birth control pills while on Acutane, in order to prevent pregnancy because the baby would be very deformed as a result of this powerful acne medication (I had to even though I am not sexually active, because I have my period). I was on the pill for a few months, but last September, I messed-up and gave up on taking the pills. I am a virgin and plan on being one until my wedding night, so it wasn't a big deal, but I told my parents and dermatologist that I was still using them, so I kept getting prescriptions for them and now have a few extra 'containers'. I quit the pill in the middle of a cycle, and haven't had my period since Sept. 4th.. I'm worried that I did some permanent damage to myself. I'm currently trying to start using the pills again, using the extras I have, to see if that will help, but I'm desperate for someone else's opinion. Can you please tell me what you think about my situation, if I may've harmed myself, if my plan to restart the pills may prove harmful, or otherwise? I am planning on telling my mom
AnswerHello Ali,
I'm not a medical doctor so I do suggest that you check with your physician and tell your mom what has happened. In my opinion, it is a shame that they are making you take birth control pills even though you aren't sexually active. It makes no sense to me. I congratulate you on your decision to be a virgin until married. My daughter made that pledge and kept it and I was very proud of her. If you are off the Acutane, then why keep taking the birth control pills? They have hormones in them, which I do not recommend. I hope this helps and please email me if you want to talk any more.
