Changing Birth Control: Safety & Considerations
QuestionI was recently supposed to start Necon 7/7/7 but unfortunately I lost my prescription so a friend gave me a months supply of Yaz. Its been a month and I got a new prescription, but I don't know if it matters that I changed brands. So basically I'm wondering if it's safe to have unprotected sex without waiting for the new brand to "kick in."
AnswerHi Sarah,
Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, I'm not a medical doctor so I always urge people to check with their personal physicians. In my opinion, using someone else's prescription without a doctor's order could be dangerous and I wouldn't recommend that. I don't know the chances of pregnancy from changing the brand of birth control pills. I would be careful though, as no birth control method is 100% safe from pregnancy and no birth control method stops STD's or sexually transmitted diseases. I always recommend abstinence as there are no dangers from pregnancy or disease. Let me know what you think. You can email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com
Thanks.
